… Is another publisher. Like I need a hole in the head.
Let’s be honest. There are well more than enough vanity publishing sites on the internet. Whether people are looking for a place to publish their incoherent ramblings or post their ‘great American novel’, there is not a lack of opportunity. So why, with all of this noise, would anyone intend to start a new publishing house? Either we are insane, or we are truly brilliant.
The word around the office is the latter.
We started Audley Press because we saw an opportunity. We surveyed the narrow-focused, myopic landscape of modern publishing and realized that there was an opportunity for new, distinctive voices. Voices that carried forth the traditions of Crumley, Carver, and Russo, and infused them with a modern twist of phrase. We saw the chance to re-invent literature for the 21st-century to reflect our aesthetic, our vision, and our unique take on the world.
We envisioned a pathway to redefine modern literature.
We wanted to take big risks and chances with new voices that just might change how we view the world.
So when someone asks us why, all we have to say is why not? If not us, then whom? If not now, then when?
We are the rebels, the kids at the back of the room, squared against the wall, huddled around the claque of fellow travelers who dare to ask whether this is all we get. We want more. We want something that speaks to us. That speaks for us, and with us. We want voices that ring true, not just commercially, but emotionally.
